Wisdom Teeth

Wisdom Tooth Pain

Wisdom teeth are found in the very back of your mouth, and it’s generally advised that wisdom teeth be removed before wisdom teeth pain becomes an issue. But if you still have your wisdom teeth, you might be experiencing symptoms that include:

  • Pain at the back of your mouth, behind your molars
  • Your wisdom teeth beginning to poke through your gums
  • The area becoming red, inflamed, and tender when touched

For many people, wisdom teeth can get stuck (impacted) and can cause infections. This is a serious situation that can result in an infection and tremendous pain. The only solution is to have the tooth (or teeth) extracted by a dentist, and one should be contacted immediately.

For short-term relief, an over-the-counter pain medication such as Tylenol or Advil can help alleviate the discomfort, as can rinsing your mouth every few hours with a solution of 8 oz warm water and a tsp of salt to help ease inflammation. Applying ice chips to the area can also help alleviate the discomfort. Antibiotics might also be needed to prevent a serious infection.

Remember that Dental Care Marlboro can be reached 24 hours a day for any wisdom tooth emergency. Call the office now at (732) 490-8101 and a member of our professional staff will help you with your situation.
